Amid the growing appetite for international cuisines and artistry, Potato Head first established its bistro and bar in Jakarta before finally making their way to the Islands of the Gods with their latest development in Bali named Potato Head Beach Club that contains a beach club, three different restaurants and finally a boutique hotel.
While marking its existence in two busiest cities, both establishments has gained recognition both local and international for expressing its sense of bricolage in the form of the arts, cuisines, cocktail, fashion, and impeccable design sense.
The development of their Jakarta-based establishment started with a personal
interest in the arts and design. This amiable interest of both Potato Head owner, Ronald Akili and Jason Gunawan prompted them to involve Indonesia's most prominent architect, Andra Matin, to design both the facade and foundation of the establishment, creating a spacious area which is divided into three sections; the ground floor, mezzanine, and outdoor area.
This difference in levels and sections is what created the dynamics of perspective to its space, complemented well by the abundant decor of old teak louver, set asymmetrically against the cement walls and ceiling. While the vintage iron rods that surround the mezzanine, the selection of vintage lamps
from the streets of Paris, hangars from Australia and factory fittings from the US, adds up to the industrial feel that the place partly eludes.
This industrial inspiration became a paradox that intertwined beautifully with the set of contemporary elements, the rest being the outstanding murals by the dining area and bar, which was created by one of the leading Indonesian contemporary artist, Eko Nugroho.
By the end of December 2010, Potato Head continues to set groundbreaking standards with the opening of its second venue in the Islands of the Gods, Bali. Potato Head Beach Club is an impressive elliptical
amphitheatre, which is also home to an unprecedented selection of restaurants and bars taking influence from its former establishment on an amplified level.
Matching up to the splendor of its place, both establishments triumph in the gastronomy department by serving international cuisines and innovative cocktails brought to you by the dedicated chefs and mixologist.
Leaving you not with a monochromatic image of its place, but a well-rounded experience that rightfully earns itself to become one of the top destinations to visit in South East Asia.
