Heading to our Bali shores for the first time ever is a man needing little introduction. Virgil Abloh is stepping behind the decks for a very special DJ set at Potato Head Beach Club on Thursday, 23 May.
The globally renowned creative disruptor will close out Future Design Week with a DJ set alongside skater-turned-designer Alex Olson. The rare pairing will bring the party for the ultimate closing event for our series of events exploring how design can build a better world.
Born in Illinois, Virgil Abloh is an American artist, architect and fashion designer. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he completed a Master’s degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. It was there that he was introduced to a curriculum—originally established by Mies van der Rohe and formed from the notions of Bauhaus—that enabled Virgil to learn how to converge the fields of arts, craft, and design. Those notions merged with contemporary culture make up his interdisciplinary practice today.
Alex Olson is an American skateboarder, DJ and entrepreneur, having founded the cult-loved labels Call Me 917 and Bianca Chandon which made him a “highly visible model of the self-taught skater-turned-entrepreneur.” In addition to skateboarding and running two companies, Alex lends his design talents to other brands, collects music, DJs and regularly practices meditation. In 2018 he also took a turn on the runway, modelling for the fashion label Eckhaus Latta in their Spring/Summer show.
