Cryptic Creatures

Some unusual beach-scene suspects in our collaboration with artist and streetwear designer Gasius

Considering himself more artist than designer, Newcastle-bred streetwear guru Gasius delves into the weird and obscure with no explanation required. The inspirations behind his label count 1970s logotypes, lost civilizations, early ‘80s comics and other cult-loved ephemera.

When we tapped Gasius to collaborate on our S/S19 collection we expected the unexpected, and he delivered with a range of graphics seemingly plucked from some surreal beach scene and a cryptic email to explain it all. Here, Mike Keat of The Cuban Brothers narrates Gasius’ story.

The Gasius x Potato Head collaboration is part of the Potato Head S/S19 collection, which draws from Indonesian iconography like Borneo’s indigenous Dayak people, endangered Sumatran tigers, original photos from Dr. Lawrence Blair’s “Ring of Fire” series and more, several of which were hand-painted by Yogyakarta-based artist  Ryan Ady Putra, who is also the creative force behind the archipelago’s revered label Domestik.

Potato Head S/S19 can be found exclusively at Dover Street Market stores around the world and online at Potato Head.
