Island Talks #003
Jackmaster & Jasper James

Former flatmates Jackmaster and Jasper James stop by Katamama
to chat about the origins of Mastermix and pivotal moments in music

Jackmaster, a.k.a Jack Revill, kick-started his musical career at Glasgow’s renowned Rubadub record store, where he worked for vinyl instead of cash. His dedication paid off, because he’s gone on to co-found one of the UK’s best club nights and record labels, Numbers, and picked up a No. 2 ranking in Resident Advisor’s “Best DJs of 2016,” while playing gigs in music meccas like Berlin, Ibiza and New York.

Jasper James was taught to mix by his dad Harri, one of the longest-running residents at Glasgow’s legendary Sub Club. Named 2015’s “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” by DJ Mag, Jasper has laid down bangers at some of the world’s most respected venues, including Ibiza’s Circoloco, The Warehouse Project in Manchester and Bob Beaman Music Club in Munich.

“It’s allowed me to just cut about the world, living the dream, booking my own parties and inviting my favourite DJs to come along.”
– Jackmaster

The boys sit down to talk about the joys of touring with friends, uploading remixes while drunk, and the distinctly inspiring atmosphere in a Potato Head crowd.
